As the company expands, we are looking for a skilled Accountant with expertise in imports, taxes, and invoicing to help manage financial operations and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.

Role Overview:
As an Accountant, you will be responsible for managing financial transactions related to imports, tax filing, and invoicing through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Portal and EFRIS system. You will ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, compliance with tax regulations, and effective management of day-to-day accounting functions. You will be an integral part of the finance team, ensuring the company’s operations align with legal and fiscal requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Imports & Customs: Manage and record financial transactions related to imports, ensuring compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) regulations. Prepare and file the necessary documentation for imported goods, including customs duties, VAT, and other applicable taxes.
  • Tax Filing & Compliance: Oversee the preparation and filing of taxes, including VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax, ensuring compliance with Uganda tax laws. Ensure timely and accurate submissions via the URA Portal and EFRIS.
  • Invoicing via EFRIS: Process and manage invoicing through the Uganda Revenue Authority’s EFRIS system, ensuring all invoices are compliant with URA requirements. Issue tax invoices and maintain accurate records of transactions.
  • Financial Reporting & Reconciliation: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Reconcile financial accounts and ensure accuracy in reporting on imports, taxes, and sales.
  • Tax Payments: Monitor and ensure timely tax payments and remittances, including VAT, withholding taxes, and income tax.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded, particularly those related to imports and taxes.
  • Audits: Support internal and external audits, ensuring all tax-related documentation and transactions are in order for inspection.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts, particularly related to import costs, taxes, and other regulatory fees.
  • Client Invoices: Manage and process invoices for clients, ensuring correct application of taxes and fees based on Uganda’s tax laws and industry standards.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience, with specific knowledge of tax regulations, import duties, and invoicing through the URA Portal and EFRIS system.
  • Tax & Import Knowledge: Understanding of Uganda’s tax laws, customs duties, VAT, NSSF, PAYE, and other relevant taxes. Hands-on experience with import-related transactions and customs clearance is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in accounting software (Excel, QuickBooks, Tally, Zoho Books, etc.) and experience using the URA Portal and EFRIS system for invoicing.
  • Education: A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or similar certification is a plus.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in financial record-keeping and tax filings.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when explaining financial information or tax regulations to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve discrepancies in financial records and ensure tax compliance.
  • Team Player: Comfortable working with a diverse team and collaborating with other departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
